  • Today WXXV received a copy of the police report filed against Gulfport Fire Chief Mike Beyerstedt, charging him with disorderly conduct and interference with business. Previously, News 25 mentioned limited details on an alleged assault that took place at the fire department on April 6th involving Chief Beyerstedt and one of his firefighters. Today, News 25 received the incident report revealing the specifics of the assault, stating the suspect, identified as Chief Mike Beyerstedt, became enraged in front of the complainant, identified as Chief of Training Timothy Holliman, and the witness, Chief of Battalion, Greg Griffin. According to the report, Beyerstedt was cursing and lunging toward Holliman and ultimately ended up head butting him. As of right now, the city and police department have refused to comment, stating they do not comment on personnel matters. We do have an inside source with the fire department who tells News 25 that Chief Beyerstedt has not been placed on administrative leave. He tells us the chief is currently attending the fire department instructions conference in Indiana and that last week he was in Washington, D.C. for another conference. Through our anonymous source, News 25 has also received word that Battalion Chief Greg Griffin, who witnessed the incident, has turned in an audio tape to be used as evidence throughout the investigation, where you can hear Beyerstedt threatening to demote one of his men. News 25 reached out to Chief Beyerstedt on April 12th to get comment on the alleged assault and he responded with “I know nothing about it.” We will continue to bring details of the investigation as they become available.
