Theatrical trailer for the 1946 horror spoof, SPOOK BUSTERS, starring Leo Gorcey, Huntz Hall and The Bowery Boys. After well-received films at Goldwyn and Warner Brothers, THE DEAD KIDS -- Billy Halop, Bobby Jordan, Leo Gorcey, Huntz Hall, Gabriel Dell and Bernard Punsley -- began starring "B" movies and serials for Universal before signing with independent producer Sam Katzman, who renamed the group, The East Side Kids, who eventually evolved into the Bowery Boys. Members dropped in out of the films and the socially relevant themes of the earlier films eventually evolved into slapstick, pepper by an unending stream of malaprops from the Boys' leader, Leo Gorcey. The films were popular and profitable for their distributor, Monogram Pictures --which also evoled into Allied Artists -- into the mid 1950s. After the death of Gorcey's father, Bernard, -- who played "Louie" the owner of the sweets shop where the boys congregated -- from injuries suffered in a traffic accident in 1955, Gorcey soon left the series and was replaced by Stanley Clements. After additional films, the series was ended with the release of 1958's IN THE MONEY.
