  • Okinawan Minyo is a popular style of music in Japan. Basically stated the minyo songs are songs of the common island people who inhabit the Ryukyu island chain. Many of the Odori style dances that accompany these songs include Okinawan karate movements. This was the way the okinawans hid the art of Karate from the Japanese when Japan invaded Okinawa and forbid any form of martial arts. This film was not taken by me but I decided to use it because of the great karate movements included in the dance performed by one of the customers to the bar that night.
