Joseph's pride is the story of Big Cat Rescue's newest arrivals. It is very sad for us all to see so many big cats in all kinds of strange situations across the U.S. Big Cat Rescue is not only trying to take in what we can (in the past six months we have now taken in 6 tigers and 2 lions and a handful of lesser cats) to provide them a permanent home where they can live out their life with respect, but we are also trying to get better legislation passed to protect the big cats still out there. For more info on how you can help us, as well as info on how you can support conservation efforts for these great cats out in the wild, please check out: www.bigcatrescue.org
In "Big Cat/ Little Cat" we join Brian as he tells us a little of the similarities of these felines. Domestic cats get a lot of their habits from their wild ancestors. And always...please remember to spay and neuter your cat. www.bigcatrescue.org Big Cat Rescue is a non profit, permanent retirement home to more than 100 tigers, lions, leopards, bobcats and more species of exotic cat. We rely entirely on donations to provide them with the lives you see in these videos. Please help support the big cats at: http://www.bigcatrescue.org/donate.htm or by mailing a check to Big Cat Rescue 12802 Easy Street, Tampa, FL 33625 813.920.4130 Info@BigCatRescue.org Thank you!
Will the bobcat has been seen by many vets and specialists. He looks normal but does not process information, such as sight and hearing, and runs into walls. We want to release him to the wild, but have to make sure he is capable of surviving.
Come with us as we update you on the big cats that appeared in three of our more popular pod casts this year. At Big Cat Rescue we pride ourselves that we are doing the best we can in this animal industry to have strong ethics. We have grown into a world-class non-breeding sanctuary and we don’t give in to the theory that babies bring in money, or that you have to rotate animals or get rid of surplus. We have no roller coasters, no petting zoos or photo booths with the cats, no taking our animals off property, and other things that other places think they need to attract money from visitors. We offer only guided tours at selected times in order to educate people on the cats situations both in captivity and in the wild. We are proud that we grow with your support year after year and we do our best to put our animals’ needs and welfare first and hope to show others that this is the way it can and should be done. Thanks for a great year! www.bigcatrescue.org
Welcome to the 2007 edition of Turkeys vs Tigers. Here at Big Cat Rescue we try to give our cats the best life possible in captivity. We have a great enrichment program, and during the holidays we try to spice it up and one of the things we do is give out turkeys to the big cats. Watch as some of our biggest residents dine on their raw turkey dinner. *Thanks to CBS Tampa's Channel 10 for coming out once again to promote this. And we are also thankful for having the greatest volunteers and supporters that any organization could ever ask for! THANKS! For the biggest resource of cat info on the net, check out: www.bigcatrescue.org HAVE A SAFE HOLIDAY SEASON
Tigers in your neighbor's backyard are still a problem in the US. Watch what these reporters discovered about Diana McCourt's Siberian Tiger Conservation Foundation.
At Big Cat Rescue we often try to help others understand why the cat populations are going down in places like Asia and Africa. We sometime forget that this is happening in our own backyard. Take a look at the current situation of the Florida Panther. Even though their numbers are slightly higher than reported in the 1980’s after decades of over hunting there are more killed on the roads than ever before. In 2006 we had 11 endangered panthers killed by vehicles. And in 2007 we have 15 so far. Their total population is an estimated 80-100. *you will hear Brian say 14 twice in the video as in the time it took from filming to producing another cat was killed) What will be the future of these predators here in Florida? For more info on the Panther (cougar/ mountain lion etc…) go to: http://myfwc.com/panther *Special thanks to those that appeared in this video and those who helped me collect panther data.
The Amur leopard is in a very tough spot right now, and those that are trying to save this species need your help! At BCR we are trying to make every cats life mean something, so we are using our captive animals as spokespeople for their wild cousins. Please check out www.amur-leopard.org. Together we CAN make a difference. Thank you. www.bigcatrescue.org
Watch as we let Joseph and his pride of another lion and two tigers into their new large enclosure. These cats have been settling in since October and getting use to their new life here at Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, Florida. Sadly, there are still at least hundreds of cats like them out there in the U.S. Some states have little or no laws regarding ownership of big cats. And those that have tough laws lack the abilities to enforce them. Few people realize the small amount that eventually find a decent home at one of the few good rescues/sanctuaries out there still take away resources that could be spent on saving these animals and their habitats out in the wild. www.bigcatrescue.org Thanks again to those that helped us from the Wild Animal Orphanage (Texas), Columbus Zoo, Humane Society of Ohio, Knox County Ohio, IFAW, & to our wonderful volunteers and supporters who made this all possible.
Big Cat Rescue is growing into a name that is recognized around the world thanks to your support. The “FUR BALL” is our annual benefit night and a chance to get dressed up and have some fun while the cats are back at the sanctuary sleeping. www.bigcatrescue.org
