YOU_ser. The Century of the Consumer / ZKM | Media Museum / Opening
On the occasion of its anniversary celebration "10 Years of ZKM in Hallenbau A", ZKM | Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany, turns its attention to the effects of net-based, global creation on art and society with the exhibition "You_ser: Das Jahrhundert des Konsumenten (The Century of the Consumer)."

Vernissage TV correspondent Thom de Bock had a brief conversation with the American filmmaker and painter David Lynch (*1946) at the Le Meridien Dom Hotel, Cologne, on 15th November 2007. Lynch talked about his artistic work, about meditation and what he is going to do next. Afterwards they lionized the Cologne Cathedral’s south transept window, designed by the German painter Gerhard Richter and then David Lynch vanished.

The exhibition “Andreas Gursky” at the Kunstmuseum Basel presents 25 works by the artist, most of them created in 2007. They include new motifs within the familiar thematic spectrum of recent years, such as Kuwait Stock Exchange and the interior of a Frankfurt nightclub, as well as photographs from the latest series Pyongyang and F1 Pit Stop. Andreas Gursky was born in Leipzig in 1955 and now lives in Düsseldorf. Andreas Gursky is widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost contemporary photographers. “Among the hallmarks of his work are his use of color, his supersize formats and his excessive deployment of digital image processing.” (excerpt from the press release). The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog with texts by Bernhard Mendes Bürgi, Beate Söntgen and Nina Zimmer. During the exhibition there will be a wide-ranging program of related events.
