Do you get enough sleep? Many of us don't. 10 Things You Need to Know About Sleep reveals the science behind why so many find it difficult to nod off, and offers practical tips on the best ways to get a good night's sleep. In a series of experiments, presenter Kate Silverton sets out to help those insomniacs desperate to get some shut eye, help travellers beat jet lag, and see if there is anything that can be done to stop loud and persistent snorers. Chef Aldo Zilli discovers how the food we eat affects our sleep, while volunteers in a sleep laboratory test the effects of alcohol and coffee on the rhythm of sleep. Record-breaking round-the-world yachtswoman Dee Caffari learns the best time to take a nap and catch up on lost sleep, while journalist Dominik Diamond finds out that less sleep can help an insomniac break bad habits. Joe Swift from Gardeners World tries out some herbal sleep remedies, and comedian Russell Kane checks out techniques that can reduce the stress that keeps him awake at night. Kate takes a hot bath before bed and discovers the surprising secret to a good night's sleep, as well as how a trick of the light can both wake you up and keep you asleep. http://www.bbc.co.uk/headroom/newsandevents/programmes/sleep.shtml

Tall Trees & Tough Men -Log Drives on the Androscoggin River
(Audio only) Charles Plummer of Auburn, Maine gives talk as Jack Larry, a logging boss of days long ago. The talk was given at the 2003 Annual meeting of the Androscoggin Historical Society. If and when we can get copies of the slide show we will posted it.
Formed in 2003 to express deep opposition to the war in Iraq and other pernicious policies of the Bush administration and their cabal of arrogant theoreticians, the Infotainment Posse has staged a series of shows at several venues in Northern California combining a broad spectrum of expression giving voice to that opposition. We have tried to highlight the hard news we as Americans must absorb about our current national situation in a way that shows both it's gravity and humor while encouraging an activist response. Taking inspiration from the rabble-rousing variety shows of the early labor struggle and the anti Vietnam war movement, the performances range from the biting impressions of renowned comic actor Geoff Hoyle and Ed Holmes of the San Francisco Mime Troupe, to the insightful straight talk of author-activist David Harris; from the overtly political folk-funk of Michael Ward with Dogs and Fishes to the wry satire of Merle Kessler and his partner in many musicals, Joshua Raoul Brody.

Following a musical/visual interlude, various aspects of what to look for in specific parcels of land are discussed - including how to find a place that will enable you to provide for your family's basic necessities in a time of crisis.
