Istanbul’s Sulukule neighborhood has to be destroyed because of an urban transformation project, so for speculation reasons, in the area. The neighbourhood is mainly home to Turks of Roma descent. The transformation project is clearly destroying the Roma comunity and culture in Istanbul. Municipality officials already last year arrived in the area accompanied by police officers to start the demolition of buildings and they continue to do so even cutting the electricity from the houses. In 1981 Sulukule has been the setting for a real turkish film: many people and the whole neighbourhood participed. Even if you don't know the turkush language you can clearly see how life in Sulukule could be, if the neighbourhoud was maintained normally.. Support the Sulukule people http://sulukulegunlugu.blogspot.com/ After the houses are destroyed, the Sulukule Project will begin. It involves the building 620 apartment units, one hotel, and a trade, culture and entertainment center. How cinical..
