PUBLIC DOMAIN At a city zoo, Serbian-born fashion designer, Irena Dubrovna (Simone Simon), stands before the cage of the black panther, apparently trying to make a sketch of it. She catches the attention of an American naval construction designer, Oliver Reed (Kent Smith), when she balls up a draft of the sketch and tries to throw it in a trash bin, without success. The two then become engaged in a conversation, with Irena eventually agreeing to taking him to her apartment for lunch. As they walk away, once of Irena's botched drafts blows in the wind, and is revealed to show a panther impaled by a sword.

Deux sœurs, Su-Mi et Su-Yeon, reviennent dans la maison de leurs parents après une longue période de soins psychiatriques. Elles sont heureuses de retrouver l'endroit où elles ont grandi mais se montrent très méfiantes à l'égard de leur belle-mère, Eun-Joon. Celle-ci a un comportement particulièrement étrange vis à vis de ses belles filles. La première nuit, Su-Yeon se réfugie dans la chambre de Su-Mi persuadée qu'une présence surnaturelle hante sa chambre. Rapidement, d'autres événements mystérieux se produisent : Une invitée prise d'une crise d'épilepsie voit un fantôme, les oiseaux d'Eun-Joon sont retrouvés empoisonnés... Convaincu que leur mort est due aux agissements de Su-Yeon, d'Eun-Joon l'enferme dans un placard. Le conflit entre la belle-mère et les deux jeunes sœurs ne fait que commencer...
