位於台三線台南玉井、楠西間的江家古厝，是目前公認保存相當完善的傳統閩南式農村聚落。它其實是台灣農村建築史的縮影，農村建築形式在這保存完整。即可見農村早期之「土角厝」、「竹編厝」、「紅磚厝」、「洗石子厝」，這些正是江家古厝的魅力所在。　　江家古厝顧名思義是個以江姓宗族為首的聚落，除了少數入贅異姓族人外，大多是江姓宗親，江家古厝至今已有三百年歷史，現仍住有七、八十戶江姓族人。古厝佔地共3.5公頃，除了閩南文化建築外，這裡的風光聽說是出奇的好，原因是前有風水池，後有鹿陶洋山，古厝建築有一特色，那就是向左右發展。傳統建築上稱「四進三院」，包括祖師堂、神明廳、公廳（公共空間）、拜亭。　　子孫屋舍則是從中軸線向兩邊發展，後因飽和才再向前延伸，於是乎有了目前的規模，稱之十三條護龍，可說是台灣農村發展史上相當大規模的發展。
