We think you'll be impressed by the wide range of styles he performs in this montage. Judges loved his Hollywood Week group performance of "Some Kind of Wonderful". After his performance, new judge Kara told him "You're an incredible singer. You are." Later in the competition, Kara said "Your vocal technique and ability is outrageous... Who has a range like that?" According to http://www.IdolRanges.com Adam has the widest full-voice range of any performer who's appeared on the show. (Interestingly, he ties with Chris Daughtry.) In 2009, however, nobody else came close. Adam's range was six notes or more wider than every other contestant. I was somewhat surprised to learn that Adam sang lower on the show than Anoop or Michael Sarver - and only one half step above Danny's lowest note. The claws came out on the eighth season premiere of Fox's American Idol Tuesday as new judge Kara DioGuardi made her television debut. To stand out from the crowd, 20-year-old contestant Katrina Darrell decided to wear a barely-there bikini as she auditioned in Phoenix. Can you guess which celeb this bikini bod belongs to? After her rendition of Mariah Carey's "Vision of Love," judges Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson sent her through - but DioGuardi didn't think she had "swing." So DioGuardi re-sang the song for Darrell, telling her how she should have done it. Darrell then snapped, "your demonstration wasn't any better." "We just know you as top and bottom," DioGuardi cracked after Darrell was eventually sent through. "Next time, come naked!" Look back at the most unforgettable Idol contestants of all time. Former contestants share their wedding pics -- and photos of their children! The night's other stand-out was 23-year-old Scott MacIntyre, who can only see two degrees of tunnel vision ("it's kind of like looking through a straw," he said of his condition). After performing "And So It Goes" by Billy Joel, the usually sharp-tongued Cowell told MacIntyre (who can also play piano classically), "you're a cool guy." Abdul said she loved when his voice "goes to softer tone" and DioGuardi called him "courageous." (The night's bizarre move came after MacIntyre was sent through and Ryan Seacrest tried to give the blind contestant a high-five.) "We'll see where it goes," MacIntyre said after his winning audition. "I am pumped. Look back at Paula Abdul's worst outfits of all time. The night's other successes: 27-year-old Michael Sarver, who works as a roughneck on an oil rig, and 21-year-old Emily Wynne-Hughes, a pink-haired, tattooed and pierced rocker.
