SoLaRiS's movie reviews at www. solsun.blogspot.com One of the better creature features from the 50's. Most notable for Ray Harryhausens stop motion animation which certainly raises this to a cut above average. Enjoy!
As a result of an arctic nuclear test, a carnivorous dinosaur thaws out and starts making its way down the east coast of North America. Professor Tom Nesbitt, only witness to the beast's existence, is not believed, even when he identifies it as a "rhedosaurus" to paleontologist Thurgood Elson. All doubts disappear, however, when Elson is swallowed whole during an oceanic bathysphere excursion to search for the creature.
A missile, launched by the team led by Prof. Quatermass, lands in the English countryside. Of the three members of the crew, two have mysteriously disappeared. The third one, barely alive, undergoes an horrible metamorphosis turning into a monstrous "thing". When he breaks out and, chased in vain by inspector Lomax, starts killing humans and animals to feed his transformation, Quatermass realizes that this is the way chosen by an alien form of life to invade the Earth.
Okay, here we have some prime cheese. While this film is not as tacky as most films made in it's time period, it maintains enough bad acting and rampant stupidity to make it fun to watch. It has everything from Atomic Submarines to a tense love interest factor, to (of course) a Giant Octopus. Modern filmmakers could learn a lot of what real horror and sci-fi is from this little number. Hope you enjoy.
"Can your heart stand the shocking facts about Graverobbers from Outer Space?" That's the question on the lips of the narrator of this tale about flying saucers, zombies and cardboard tombstones. A pair of aliens, angered by the "stupid minds" of planet Earth, set up shop in a California cemetery. Their plan: to animate an army of the dead to march on the capitals of the world. Is Plan 9 from Outer Space the worst film ever made? Comments?
