八色鳥是台灣夏侯鳥中相當具代表性的鳥類之一，除了介紹八色鳥的分布地區、外型特徵、生態習性與面臨生存危機外，還有其他留鳥、侯鳥和過境鳥等三種族群的介紹。 The blue-winged Pitta is one of the most unique summer-migrating bird species in Taiwan. This video introduces the inhabited regions, characteristics, and habitual behaviors of this endangered bird, and also introduces the other three types of bird species – resident birds, migrating birds and migratory birds.
八色鳥生性隱密,常活動於森林底層，飛行快速但通常是短距離，在繁殖期間，活動的範圍不會離巢太遠．以蝸牛’蚯蚓’昆蟲等動物性食物為主食． 台灣有九成以上的候鳥，是度冬的”冬候鳥”，而八色鳥是夏天飛來台灣繁殖的”夏候鳥”．五月份起八色鳥陸續自菲律賓’婆羅洲’南洋一帶飛抵台灣．部份個體留在台灣繁殖，其他飛往更北方的日本’韓國等地繁殖，同年秋季再回到南洋一帶過冬． 在台灣西部丘陸均可發現其蹤跡．原本八色鳥是普遍的夏候鳥，但因人們過度捕捉及環境破壤雙重因素影響，已成稀有鳥種．
