NEWPORT, R.I., September 15, 2009 - Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus delivers his remarks during the biennial 19th International Seapower Symposium (ISS) Oct. 7, at the Naval War College for naval leaders from around the globe. Held since 1969, this years gathering of naval leaders will be one of the largest gatherings of maritime leaders in history. ISS provides an unprecedented opportunity for naval leaders from around the world to increase trust and confidence by discussing common maritime challenges and opportunities to enhance maritime security cooperation. More than 200 Flag Officers, General Officers and senior civilian leaders, including a significant number of Chief of Naval Operations and Commandant of the Coast Guard counterparts, from 109 countries are expected to attend this notable event. This year's theme is Connecting Navies, Building Partnership.
