Avalanches are common in these parts but today's was one of the largest this season and it happened near Everest base camp at the lower West Shoulder and crashed into the lower Icefall. From their laboratory tents, pitched in -25°C conditions, the experts use their own bodies for medical tests. They push themselves to the limit to better understand the human body's behaviour in a low-oxygen environment.
