Tiger vs cow (tails) big cat fun 05:11

Our animal enrichment program is always looking for new and safe ways to keep our cats entertained. Senior keeper Barbara came up with an idea of wrapping cow tails up in paper so that the tigers had to work for their treats. Watch as the tigers get cow tails for the first time. This pod cast also includes some tiger facts as well. With around 5,000 of these animal left in the wild, we need to take action right now for their survival. Human over population and illegal trade in their body parts have led them to the brink of extinction. We simply need to support programs that save their habitat around the globe. • So many times we get asked why we get our endangered animals fixed?...well, in this video we address that subject. In short- believe it or not, there are more captive tigers than wild tigers and that is something we do not like. The cats we get fixed serve no purpose for the future of their species (not a part of the SSP) other than educating the public. We do tours of our facility and educate the public about captive and wild tigers and we send funds to tiger conservation projects overseas. We hope that one day the problem of people owning and breeding tigers as pets will be a thing of the past. To learn more about what you can do to keep people from owning tigers as well as what you can do to keep the tigers in the wild safe go to: www.bigcatrescue.org Together we can put the emphasis and our resources back into keeping the tiger in the wild.

  • This tiger is named Hercules. He now lives at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge in Eureka Springs Arkansas. He was a former privately owned 'pet'. His cage was roughly 4'x4'x6'. Basically big enough to stand up and turn around. Due to lack of movement and poor diet Hercules is smaller than he should be and has leg and hip problems. He is playful though as you can well see. He needs a big habitat yard. YOU can help by donating to Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge's Habitat Yard construction fund. Tigers should never be private pets.

  • In "Big Cat/ Little Cat" we join Brian as he tells us a little of the similarities of these felines. Domestic cats get a lot of their habits from their wild ancestors. • The current situations with cougars (mountain lions etc…) are interesting. You could be a Florida Panther, which are protected and slowly heading towards extinction (as many are hit by vehicles each year due to a huge population growth in Florida), or you could be a western puma and legally hunted in states like Oregon for a $10.00 fee. The cougars we mostly hear about are those that are people’s former pets. We get calls all the time where people went out and bought a cute fluffy cougar cub only to realize that like all animals, they grew up. Our “cubs” were sent here around 2 years ago after their mother was shot in the wilderness. A lot of you have been asking how they are doing, and this video taken at feeding time on whole prey night, will give you the chance to see that they have grown up. Thank you for watching. www.bigcatrescue.org
