John Taylor Gatto Interviewed by Lennart Mogren
John Taylor Gatto is a learned eloquent critic of the present school system all over the world. In this interview he exposes the hidden agenda that makes most of us hate school. I have written a book, "Sluta skolan!" (Swedish, "Abolish School"), on my own experiences and views and I have come to the same conclusions as Mr Gatto has. He exposes the dark and terrifying machinery behind the scenes. Mr Gatto gÃves us hope and tools to start dismantling this hideous institution. In my view parents need to get in charge of their kids' education in new loving and nurturing ways. Mr Gatto is a great inspiration for those us who realize this. The interview took place in March 2003. www.johntaylorgatto.com - www.slutaskolan.nu

Savage-Rumbaugh asks whether uniquely human traits, and other animals' behaviors, are hardwired by species. Then she rolls a video that makes you think: maybe not. The bonobo apes she works with understand spoken English. One follows her instructions to take a cigarette lighter from her pocket and use it to start a fire. Bonobos are shown making tools, drawing symbols to communicate, and playing Pac-Man -- all tasks learned just by watching. Maybe it's not always biology that causes a species to act as it does, she suggests. Maybe it's cultural exposure to how things are done.

An excerpt from Plato's Republic, the 'Allegory of the Cave' is a classic commentary on the human condition. It is a story of open-mindedness and the power of possibility. Bullhead Entertainment has adapted and brought it to life by shooting thousands of high-resolution photographs of John Grigsby's wonderful stop motion animation.
