Bobcat Gets New Home 07:39

Wanoka, a bobcat, arrived at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge on may 30, 2007. He had been baught as a pet from a breeding facility in Tishomingo, Oklahoma for $300! We must work together to stop this irresponsible breeding and selling of native species. See www.turpentinecreek.org for more information.

  • Will the bobcat has been seen by many vets and specialists. He looks normal but does not process information, such as sight and hearing, and runs into walls. We want to release him to the wild, but have to make sure he is capable of surviving.

  • At Big Cat Rescue we often try to help others understand why the cat populations are going down in places like Asia and Africa. We sometime forget that this is happening in our own backyard. Take a look at the current situation of the Florida Panther. Even though their numbers are slightly higher than reported in the 1980’s after decades of over hunting there are more killed on the roads than ever before. In 2006 we had 11 endangered panthers killed by vehicles. And in 2007 we have 15 so far. Their total population is an estimated 80-100. *you will hear Brian say 14 twice in the video as in the time it took from filming to producing another cat was killed) What will be the future of these predators here in Florida? For more info on the Panther (cougar/ mountain lion etc…) go to: http://myfwc.com/panther *Special thanks to those that appeared in this video and those who helped me collect panther data.

  • Big Cat Rescue recently got the call to help a wild Florida bobcat in need. Recent construction near the airport had forced a bobcat out of its own territory and into a business complex. This sadly is happening to all kinds of wildlife all around the world. People move in, wildlife gets pushed out. The bobcat will be treated as a candidate for rehab and release and kept away from people until he stabilizes enough to re evaluate his condition. Please stay tuned… *Big Cat Rescue released “Faith” in the wild back in 2005 and track and monitor her still to this day. We also provide a permanent home to several bobcats that could not be returned to the wild. (Special Thanks to Rodney for the production of this video) www.bigcatrescue.org

  • Welcome to the 2007 edition of Turkeys vs Tigers. Here at Big Cat Rescue we try to give our cats the best life possible in captivity. We have a great enrichment program, and during the holidays we try to spice it up and one of the things we do is give out turkeys to the big cats. Watch as some of our biggest residents dine on their raw turkey dinner. *Thanks to CBS Tampa's Channel 10 for coming out once again to promote this. And we are also thankful for having the greatest volunteers and supporters that any organization could ever ask for! THANKS! For the biggest resource of cat info on the net, check out: www.bigcatrescue.org HAVE A SAFE HOLIDAY SEASON
