Watch Big Cat Rescue save four tigers from being killed at Robert Baudy's Savage Kingdom after he was shut down by USDA for killings, maulings and escapes.
A common misconception that people seem to have is that a tiger in captivity is tame or that they are friendly. Working with Tigers is a pod cast in which we go along side with Big Cat Rescue animal caretaker Brian, as he explains a little on what itâs like to work around tigers. Like people, tigers each have their own unique personalities. In this pod cast we will learn just how extreme some can be. Tigers are a very beautiful but deadly animal that are being wiped off our planet at an alarming rate. For more information on tigers and other felines go to: www.bigcatrescue.org
Far too many exotic cats are in private hands where they are doing nothing for the conservation of the species. These pets are often exhibited in public under the guise of education. These cats are exploited for photo ops when they are cubs and discarded to horrible unaccredited pseudo sanctuaries or roadside zoos when they are adults. The real way to save these great cats is to preserve habitat. Do not throw your money away into an exotic pet trade that does nothing for the survival of the cats. All of the footage was taken in the first couple of weeks in 2007, 60 miles or less from our own gates. Some of it was filmed at the Florida State Fair FWC exhibit where people watched the pacing animals (borrowed from a local pet owner) in their tiny exhibit cages. No one spoke to the children about real conservation, and nothing was learned. We all have grown tired of seeing animals living in these conditions. It took seven years for the USDA and concerned citizens to shut down the Siberian Tiger Conservation Association, which was just a fancy name for a tiger tamer wannabee camp. Now Big Cat Rescue is calling on you to help bring these cats to FL so that they can live out the rest of their lives in peace.

Watch as we let Joseph and his pride of another lion and two tigers into their new large enclosure. These cats have been settling in since October and getting use to their new life here at Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, Florida. Sadly, there are still at least hundreds of cats like them out there in the U.S. Some states have little or no laws regarding ownership of big cats. And those that have tough laws lack the abilities to enforce them. Few people realize the small amount that eventually find a decent home at one of the few good rescues/sanctuaries out there still take away resources that could be spent on saving these animals and their habitats out in the wild. www.bigcatrescue.org Thanks again to those that helped us from the Wild Animal Orphanage (Texas), Columbus Zoo, Humane Society of Ohio, Knox County Ohio, IFAW, & to our wonderful volunteers and supporters who made this all possible.
A good hearted couple try to start a refuge only to find out it is harder than they thought. The cats the collected were split between several places in the midwest.
In this edition of specie spotlight we look at the very popular white tiger (which actually isn't a separate specie of tiger.) White tigers are produced from inbreeding and they actually weaken the captive tiger gene pool and they do nothing to help real conservation of the tiger. For more info on this: http://www.bigcatrescue.org... *Please urge anyone you see exhibiting white tigers to get them fixed as we CAN stop this abuse in our generation. Since they bring in $$$, many places breed them, and this has to be stopped in order to save the real tigers. Thank you.
In "Conservation or cruelty" we take a 6 minute look at places and individuals that breed and exhibit large felines, many in the name of conservation. In the US, unaccredited road side zoos, pseudo sanctuaries and personal exhibits across the country that house lions, tigers and leopards are breeding them in countless numbers to attract the public. We look at some that are open to the public and sadly probably rate around "average" of the facilities that we know of. You be the judge...is it conservation or cruelty? *BCR proudly supports real conservation efforts in The Snow Leopard Trust, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and the Sumatran Tiger Trust to name a few. Even our own founder was fooled years ago into fake conservation; please don't let it happen to you. Log onto: www.bigcatrescue for more info.
