  • This Centron Productions from 1951 deals with the tale of "Susan Jane," the perennial outcast. This is a good film that really gets down to a problem with perception.

  • (1971) While attempting to show us the common hazards which cause workers to lose their balance, this film has more slapstick than most Three Stooges shorts - the films hero fall down more than thirty times. Its not clear whether the film was meant to be funny as workers probably were laughing at this poor schnook more than learning from his mistakes.

  • With such a provocative title, this 1959 film illustrates some of the perceived problems a supervisor might face working with women, but ultimately demonstrates where the real problem lies. The irritated supervisor in this film shows up again in The Grapevine.

  • LSD: Insight or Insanity (1967) was a short film that condemned the use of LSD and "acid". What's makes this short different than the others was the vocal narration from has been actor Sal Mineo. After appearing in some high prolific productions, Mr. Mineo has all but disappeared from the spotlight. But he not only provides a narration for this film, but he gives the viewers an added bonus. He performs the vocals of the song that plays during the end credits. What's even funnier is the fact that he comes off sounding like a curmudgeon. Talking down to the people in the movie and the youth in general. I would be bitter too if I went from REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE to narrating an anti-drug short. Sal would have one last shot in the big leagues when he played in ESCAPE FROM PLANET OF THE APES.

  • 1968 Johnson & Johnson commercial short film. In the early days of "sex ed", producers of feminine hygiene products were quick to produce educational films targeting girls that would prominently feature their products. In this one, a mom tells her young daughter all about the wonders of the Modess line of products, while trying to help her cope with the changes her body is undergoing. Later, her her teacher calls on her to help explain menstruation to the other girls in the class. All the boys that were excluded from these sessions may now finally discover what happened when the girls all went off to that "special class" together.

  • (1969) The American Social Health Association was always experimenting with new ways to educate the public about venereal disease. They helped produce the first VD education film, "Fit to Fight", in 1918 in order to educate soldiers being shipped abroad to fight in the first World War. Although this popular TV public service announcement informs the public that everybody is susceptible to venereal disease, strangely, it also seems to imply that having VD will make you successful, attractive and happy. Also, the song is quite infectious...

  • This is a 1975 short film created by Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania and hosted by Richard Dix. It was intended to inform people about the need to educate the mentally disabled ("trainables," as they are referred to in the film) about sex. Reflecting the views of the time, the film explains that "trainables" cannot learn in the same manner as those of normal intelligence, but must instead be trained through repetition. This movie is used in an episode of The Residents video series TIMMY called TIMMY and the Sex Lesson. -- Please Leave Comments --
