The protests -- initiated by Buddhist monks -- have been growing since Monday, the anniversary of the failed 1959 Tibetan uprising against Beijing rule. http://www.freetibet.org/info/facts/h... Tibet, an autonomous province, has long been independed from China. In 1950,Chinese communist army invaded Tibet. As part of an assimilation policy,Beijing goverernment bring many Chinese immigrants into Tibet and imposed on the Tibetans a punitive family planning programme which has led to reports of abortions, sterilisations and infanticide.
