Heute sind viele Amerikaner stolz auf ihre Vorfahren, die sie zum Teil bis zum Buergerkrieg zurueckverfolgen koennen. Namen wie Robert F. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant oder William Tecumseh Sherman lernen Amerikaner schon von der Wiege auf kennen. Aber da gibt es auch Namen, die heute kaum jemand mehr kennt: Ely Parker, Stand Waite oder Henry Berry Lowery. Sie kÃ¤mpften wie 20- 30.000 weitere "echte" Amerikaner als Eingeborene mit im US-Buergerkrieg. Sowohl die Unionisten als auch die Konfoederierten hatten zahlreiche "Rothaeute" in ihren Reihen zu verzeichnen.
