One reason for the big push to overhaul our nation's healthcare system is to cover more people... Donnell Preskey finds out who those uninsured people are in North Dakota here's one woman's story... Who are the uninsured in North Dakota??? They make up 8% of our population or about the size of Bismarck... (Carmen) "I always thought I'd have a job where I could afford insurance." Meet Carmen... she's one of the 52,000 people in the state who does not have health insurance... She's a single woman... going back to school... and no extra time for a job... (Carmen) "I'm working 40 hours a week doing my practicum in addiction counseling. So trying to work on the weekends is almost impossible." It's not the way it's always been or will be in the future... She can't afford to get sick... And with Diabetes and Asthma everyday she's well is a blessing... (Carmen) "I filed bankruptcy in the past year. So going into the hospital would set me back before I can even get started." She takes seven different prescriptions... Luckily she gets the drugs she needs to stay healthy through a Prescription Assistance program... (Carmen) "My medications alone would run me $300-$400 a month." With healthcare reform being the hot topic these days she says she hears many opinions about what to do with the "uninsured".... (Carmen) "There's people like me out there that can't afford health insurance, what are we going to do about it? I hate listening to them, because they're so one tracked minded they don't think about those that can't afford it." But she knows... Carmen will be done with school in April. That's when she hopes to land a full time job be able to afford health coverage and not have to ever worry about scrapping by again... Here's a breakdown of the Uninsured in North Dakota... About 8.2% of North Dakotan's do not have coverage... Which is almost half of the rate of the unisured in the U.S. The uninsured tend to be more in the very rural areas. 72% of the uninsured adults are employed but work in firms with ten or fewer employe

You might say Kami Hanson's experience this weekend was a bit like a first year bowler rolling a 300... Maybe a rookie in Major League Baseball tossing a perfect game. That is basically what the senior at Des Lacs-Burlington High School is a rookie in the sport of hunting. This is her first year and it will be one she won't soon forget! This is what she bagged Saturday near Berthold! A bull moose weighing in at about 900 pounds with a 38 inch spread. In her first year, she was lucky enough to get her hunting tag and after weeks of scouting got this big guy. It was a day-long chore getting him loaded up...but certainly worth all the work. (Kami Hanson - DLB Senior) "It is a once in a lifetime opportunity so I will never get another moose in ND and I am the first one in my family. Everyone was excited! I have never even shot a deer...this is my first year applying for anything so this was really exciting and kind of different." Quite the rookie hunting experience! a balloon passenger is recovering in the hospital tonight -- after the balloon he was riding in clipped a tent at balloon fiesta park, tipping the gondola, and throwing the man minute thumbnail 05:03 pm out. this morning's accident was all caught on camera. antoinette antonio is live at balloon fiesta park to show us the home video. antoinette? it was one of these large tents that the balloon clipped this morning-- creating a horrifying sight for those nearby as a man fell roughly 25 feet down to the ground. as the balloon - kalista - glides in for the balloon fiesta hold 'em competition -- it hits the top of a large, white tent on the south end of the park. the accident -- caught on camera by this couple from holland. i was just taping the next balloon coming in low and all of a sudden i saw the pilot drop out of it as it turns out, it was the passenger, 70 year old thomas hurd from florida, who fell out. i was very very concerned for the person in the balloon and very concerned about the person who dropped out of the gondola the pilot, 56 year old pilot timmerly ecklund of illinois, minute thumbnail 05:04 pm remained in the gondola as the balloon rapidly went up... then came crashing down onto the field. the person pulled the cord which let the air out and it came down and crashed hard in front of us state police say the pilot walked away from the crash with minor injuries, but was taken to the hospital as a precaution. her passenger, suffered a dislocated hip, as well as leg and head injuries. right now it's not clear if it was weather, or pilot error that caused the crash. either way, witnesses are just glad the outcome wasn't worse. we are relieved that we heard that everything was ok as it can be we tried to contact the passenger at unm hospital to see how he's doing -- but we were told he wasn't quite ready to talk yet. live from bf park.
