This is a slide show of the Independence Day celebrations held September 15, 2008 in San Miguel de Allende, Guananjuato, Mexico. A light rain falls, the bells of the Parroquia church toll and the crowd sings along to the Mexican National Anthem as fireworks explode. Every September 15th Mexicans celebrate Roman Catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo's 1810 "grito" or call for independence when he launched a revolt against Spanish rule by ringing a church bell and shouting "Viva Mexico" to a cheering crowd.
