Fox then replaced Swedish-born Oland, with Sidney as Chan Chan (ironically, who was also born in Sweden) and resumed the popular Charlie Chan series with CHARLIE CHAN IN HONOLULU (1938). Oland died of bronchial pneumonia in his native Sweden on August 6, 1938 five months after the release of MR. MOTO'S GAMBLE.
