MR. MOTO'S GAMBLE 1938 PETER LORRE TRAILER
Theatrical trailer for the third "Mr. Moto" entry starring Peter Lorre, MR. MOTO'S GAMBLE. This film actually began as CHARLIE CHAN AT RINGSIDE, but when then-Chan Warner Oland (birth name John Verner Olund) suffered a mental breakdown with acute dementia, Fox rewrote the script and included both Key Luke -- as Jimmy Chan -- and Harold Huber -- as Police Lieutenant Riggs -- from the series. Fox then replaced Swedish-born Oland, with Sidney as Chan Chan (ironically, who was also born in Sweden) and resumed the popular Charlie Chan series with CHARLIE CHAN IN HONOLULU (1938). Oland died of bronchial pneumonia in his native Sweden on August 6, 1938 five months after the release of MR. MOTO'S GAMBLE. CHUMP AT OXFORD 1940 LAUREL AND HARDY TRAILER
Theatrical trailer for the 1940 Laurel and Hardy Laugh classic, A CHUMP AT OXORD. After over a decade with producer Hal Roach, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy would make only additional feature film, SAPS AT SEA (1940) before leaving the studio for films at 20th Century-Fox and M-G-M. None of the ensuing films equalled the quality of their shorts or features with Roach. THE DEADLY MANTIS 1957 TRAILER
Theatrical trailer for the 1957 giant monster-on-the loose chiller, THE DEADLY MANTIS, starring Craig Stevens, Mara Corday and William Hopper. This above average giant bug flick follows a familiar format of a giant prehistoric creature released from the Artic ice which has imprisoned it for million sof years to terrorize mankid. Under the efficient direction by Nathan Juan (20 MILLION MILES TO EARTH, SEVENTH VOYAGE OF SINBAD) the film succeeds both as a atmospheric thriller and a monster movie. OVERLAND STAGE RAIDERS 1938 JOHN WAYNE TRAILER
Re-release trailer for the 1939 "Three Mesquiteers" western, OVERLAND STAGE RAIDERS, starring John Wayne, Ray "Crash" Corrigan and Max "Alibi" Terhune. Also, OVERLAND STAGE RAIDERS marked the last film appearance of Louise Brooks. One of the screen's most fascinating figures, the toast of the silent screen and an international star of great magnitude, Ms. Brooks' film career dwindled to support roles in the late 1930s. She left the screen to paint and write, authoring over 25 books, including the memorable autobiography, LULU IN HOLLYWOOD. THE ALAMO 1960 JOHN WAYNE TRAILER
Re-release theatrical trailer for John Wayne's magnum opus, THE ALAMO. Despite being nominated for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture (it won for Best Sound) and being one of the top ten grossing films of 1960, the film's 12 million dollar budget forced Wayne to assume huge personal debt in order to finish the film after its distributor, United Artists, refused to pay for cost overruns during production. It wasn't until THE ALAMO was sold to television in 1971 that Wayne's personal debts were paid off.
