I usually head down to the Lake for a sunrise when the weather is unsettled, but this morning I thought I'd give it a try on a nice morning... and it was spectacular. The clouds were so majestic... This video series was shot on Thursday August 8, 2008 in Edgewater on Chicago's far north side, approximately 6200 north, off the Red Line's Granville station. The park is Berger Park, a hidden gem in the shadow of Loyola University.
My curmudgeonly comments on some of the more pathetic and stupid things about this city which I otherwise adore. Most will be of the northside neighborhoods- Wrigleyville, Lakeview, Boystown, Uptown, Edgewater, & Rogers Park
My beloved wife came down with me to the lake this morning. I shot these on a tripod in night mode, so the frame rate is slower. I also under-exposed by two stops. There's no talking, no dogs, just nature. I intended these videos to be suitable for zen-like contemplation and relaxation. You can download them from Veoh or Google video.

There was a line of storms just south of us, the sky was alive, and thunder echoed in the distance. I got down to Berger Park on Chicago's far northside (Granville & Sheridan in Edgewater, just south of Loyola U's Lakeshore campus) just as the sun peeked over the horizon.
I was up early again today, so I went to the lake again, and this time the weather was much more cooperative. Most of these were shot at the slower frame rate, though one is at normal. My pups make their usual cameo, as does another dog whose friendliness to mine surprised her owner. Berger Park is in Edgewater on Chicago's far north side, 6200 north. Sunrise at Berger Park, Edgewater, Chicago 4/4 (FINAL)
Over all, I enjoyed this series. I might try shooting shorter segments in normal FPS, and I need to work on smoother panning... which may not be possible with the cheap little pocket tripod I'm using. Hope you've enjoyed it too!
I was hoping to get the sunrise, but it was too cloudy. The camera is on a tripod sitting on the rocks, the video shot in the slower frames per second night mode.
I'm amazed my butterfly dogs didn't fly off their leashes to try to play with this fellow. He seemed pretty comfortable with my presence. My father always called them "tree rats" hence my use of that term in the video.
The weather has been MAGICAL here in Chicago the last few days, especially by the lake. The water is often warmer than the air temp, so we've had lots of fog. It was especially apt and touching that it was so this morning, as today's our 13th anniversary, and we honeymooned in the UP of Michigan, where it was like this EVERY morning.

I was surprised to see the protest going today down at Sacred Heart at Granville & Sheridan in Chicago's far northside Edgewater community, and even more surprised when this serendipitously named bus ("Free Enterprise") that it revealed a number of the students from the school gleefully hamming it up with the rat, taking pictures and video, etc. Gotta love America- the labor folks have the freedom of speech to put the rat up, and the students have the freedom of speech to mug for the camera with it!
