There is a dragon helping doctors at Trinity Hospital get their work done... Dragon Speak to be more precise. It is a new method of dictation that doctors are using that speeds up the process letting doctors see more patients. Perry Olson shows us what it is in this week's Eye on Health. (Dr. Scott Knutson - Trinity Health) "In essence it replaces a keyboard completely." It is what Dr. Scott Knutson is talking into this computer with new software called 'Dragon Speak' Notes that previously had to be typed are spoken into the mic and put down as words in the proper form they need... (Dr. Scott Knutson - Trinity Health) "It is always an effort in every hospital to get good documentation that is efficient and doesn't take away from patient time and needs to be easy to implement so you can move on to the next patient." I got a chance to see just how easy it works and it is amazing. This voice recognition technology has been around for a few decades but recently has been upgraded so that it works very well...making few mistakes... (Dr. Scott Knutson - Trinity Health) "If you said Dr. Write will write you prescription right now it will pick up all of that and put it in the right context. It allows for clear language flow." And it does so for pretty much everyone knowing the medical terms that you and I might never say but doctors do all the time... (Dr. Scott Knutson - Trinity Health) "We have many doctors who have accents and it has no difficulty picking them up. Irish, Indian...any background. It is amazing in its recognition potential." (Perry Olson - KX News) "This system has been used at Trinity in the ER since September and the doctors say they love it." Notice it picked that sentence up word-for-word. It should be expanded into other parts of the hospital to doctors who want to give it a try soon. With your Eye on Health, Perry Olson, KX News. [www.clipsyndicate.com | KXMC CBS Bismarck North ]
