  • Albuquerque’s first mass H1N1 flu vaccination clinic will be held Saturday with about 4,000 doses available, but the city’s health department is asking the media to not say where it is at. Instead, you’ll have to call the city’s new H1N1 vaccine hotline to make an appointment – and only if you are in a high-risk category. The phones are already ringing practically non-stop at the new hotline. Albuquerque firefighters are staffing the lines. As of noon Monday they had set up appointments for about 1,400 people. “It’s a clinic that people need to call into and get scheduled for to attend this clinic,” said Greg Sanchez, the city’s emergency manager. The city’s health department is worried about a rush of people. So it is not disclosing the location of the clinic. If you want to attend, you’ll have to call the hotline at (505) 833-6360 to make your appointment. The hotline is open weekdays from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. “We’re trying to schedule those so there’s enough time for people to get in, to park, to walk through, sign the appropriate paperwork, to be evaluated and then receive their vaccination,” said EMS division commander Tige Watson. The hotline is averaging 200 calls a day from people wanting to get scheduled for the December 12th shot clinic. The clinic hopes to vaccinate 625 people an hour. “This is kind of going to help us on the front end to make sure that those impacted groups, those groups that we’re concerned about the most, that they actually receive that vaccination so that we’re not responding to them in an emergency situation,” said Watson.
