The H1N1 virus has descended on offices, homes and schools across the country. So how do you dodge these vicious little germs before they infect you? Ezra Qassim says he just can't stop using hand sanitizer. "It's become a habit now. Every 20 minutes or so I'm spraying something," Qassim said. That's because his job is throwing big events at nightclubs. In that line or work, being extra friendly with his over 200 guests comes with the territory. "You do have to kind of socialize a bit, so it's one of those things that you do it, but you cringe at the fact, especially someone like me, who's a self-described germaphobe," said Qassim. Doctors say it is those types of public places that become a petri dish for germs like the H1N1 flu virus, better knows as swine flu. Family Practitioner Dr. Ranit Mishori said, "Any surfaces that people touch, so door knobs, poles, handles, you'll find germs over there. Anywhere where there's large human traffic." Dr. Mishori says the worst hiding place for flu terms is on doorknobs and handles. "They're microscopic. You can't see them,” Dr. Mishori said. “They'll stick on the doorknob, and then the next person comes in, opening the door, taking whatever is left on the door knob, and then maybe scratching their eyes or their nose." Other danger zones are poles and handles on subways, elevator buttons, buses, and at the office on your phone and computer keyboard. "We don't tend to clean those very often," said Dr. Mishori. And don't forget the gym, where people have their hands all over the equipment. "Gyms are definitely a big place where you find germs. They come in and go on that treadmill, they lift those barbells and you have germs spread all over the place," said Dr. Mishori. There are literally millions of germs, including bacteria and all sorts of viruses. But flu bugs tend to live longer than others. One study found the flu virus can live up to two days in some environments. It is more common though that they last for a few hours. Scientists have also found flu viruses that l
