  • road crews are on high alert. the new mexico department of transportation is monitoring the temperature-- and plans to deploy a fleet of plows and sand trucks if need. kayla anderson is live at i-40 and tramway with more. obviously the canyon is one of the biggest concerns for road crews-- along with the corridor between albuquerque and santa fe. take a look at what's headed our way. this is the storm system that's coming from southern california. to prepare for this-- nm dot has several patrol foremen closely monitoring the weather. once the temperatures drop... crews and equipment will deploy as they're need. "a patrol foreman will typically go right into the office, pull up all the screens on the computer and check the weather, find out what's going on, maybe go out and actually drive the roads a little bit, see where we're at and as it gets closer and closer to that moment and have them come out." this is video of the first snow of minute thumbnail 10:02 pm the season-- which fell late last month. that was the chance for crews to get the rust off their equipment-- and they haven't had to go out since. but, we're told they're ready for this next winter blast e department of transportation wants to remind you to slow down on icy roads-- and check your wiper blades-- also, carry a blanket with you-- just in case. reporting live from sedillo hill, kayla anderson, eyewitness news 4. the new mexico department of homeland security and emergency management are also urging drivers to be prepared for a winter emergency. some of the items officials say you should carry with you when you travel include...a flashlight, shovel, snacks, water, and matches. also, before you head out on a on a trip -- check antifreeze levels, you car's battery, brakes and tire treads. and don't forget to check the latest road conditions before you leave home. you can do that by calling the state's hotline at 5-1-1.
