  • Subway's slogan is 'Eat Fresh' and this weekend, the Fighting Sioux men's hockey team is looking to dine on some fresh opponents at the 'Subway Holiday Classic' in Grand Forks. The fourth ranked Sioux face Ohio State on Friday Night.... and after that, its nation's number one, Miami of Ohio, on Saturday. UND is in need of a boost, coming off two losses at Denver, which dropped them from second to fourth. "(Dave Hakstol:) Easy billing is that it is 3 of the top 6, but don't forget Ohio State in that mix. They were a tournament team last year as a young team and they have played at the top of their game this year and it looks like they have been as good as anybody and I think the rest of the field speaks for itself and it'll be exactly how it is build, as a nice showcase of college hockey. " 6th ranked Bemidji State is also at the showcase. Both O-S-U and Miami play in the CCHA. The puck drops at 7:37 p.m. both nights. [www.clipsyndicate.com | KXMB CBS Bismarck North D]

  • Five straight wins, 12 straight games with at least one earned point, and only three of those were *in* Bismarck! Right now, its hard to find things for the Bismarck Bobcats to improve on... but one sticks out. They are under .500 at home. For more on that, lets go 'Inside the Den.' "They haven't been home since Halloween weekend.... but Thanksgiving Day, the Bismarck Bobcats are back on their own ice... but while they were away, they did well... going 5-0-1, with three wins last week. (Ryan Jacobsen:) It is nice to get a point always. If you can get a point every game, that really works and most games, you want to get two and you just want to really limit the losses and every point matters. It is a tired cliche, but it is true. (Ryan Massa:) We have got a lot of momentum right now and the team has been great. We have all been having a lot of fun and staying positive with each other. Thanks to their success on the road, The Bobcats are now four points up for first place in the Central.... but they're still under .500 at home, at 2-3-2. (Byron Pool:) You don't really worry about what you've done in the past, I think you have to focus on where you are going and for us, it is a one game at a time type of thing and we even break it down to our players that it is a shift by shift type of deal and if you can be successful with each and every shift, chances are that other stuff like first place and places in the standings will take care of themselves. If anyone knows about Hockey on the holidays... its the Bobcats. Halloween's happened, and both New Years Eve and New Years Day are on the schedule... and then of course, there is 'Turkey Day. (Ryan Jacobson:) I haven't been home for Thanksgiving in probably four years, so you get used to it but it should be very nice and we are excited and hopefully, we can come out and get a win on Thanksgiving. (Ryan Massa:) After playing hockey for so many years, I have kind of been accustomed to not being home for Thanksgiving. It is something that I have gotten used to over the year

  • Eyewitness News 4 has uncovered what University of New Mexico officials were saying behind the scenes as the investigation into football coach Mike Locksley unfolded. Investigative reporter Jeremy Jojola filed a records request more than a month ago to obtain emails regarding the incident. In one of those emails, UNM athletic director Paul Krebs writes that he is worried about his own future. He also expresses frustration over leaks in the department and how the story unfolded. It all began with the September 20th scuffle between UNM head football coach Mike Locksley and former assistant coach J.B. Gerald. Statements said an argument over football plays resulted in Locksley lunging at Gerald. Locksley was initially verbally reprimanded by the university and later placed on a ten-day suspension. A month after Eyewitness News 4’s record’s request, the university did provide emails that had been sent out by Krebs during the time he was dealing with the media swarm. In one email to a media consultant, Krebs writes about an October 13th ESPN article that broke the news about Locksley’s suspension: “Story broke on ESPN. Not sure how or where the leak came from as none of my staff knew except Greg [Remington] and Kurt.” Krebs asks the consultant, “Any last minute advice? Feel like he may take me down with him.” In another email sent to the same consultant, Krebs writes, “It is incredible how many people are using this as an opportunity to bash Mike [Locksley] and taking shots about everything about him.” The emails also reveal an effort to get J.B. Gerald to speak about the incident. Nine days after the scuffle, athletics spokesman Greg Remington wrote to Krebs, “J.B. coming forward and saying something [positive] would sure soothe the situation.” Krebs responded, “Suggest you try and reach out to him.” Also among the emails is criticism about a sports reporter with The Daily Lobo school newspaper, Isaac Avilucea, who requested Locksley’s phone records and text messages. Associate director of athletics, Richard Pickeri

  • The Minot High girls Hockey team kicked off their season last night with a 3-1 win over Williston. 17 players are out for this year's team that lost only 3 players to graduation. The Majettes are coming off of a 6th place finish at state last year and feel like they're an improved team from last year. Much like the boys team, the Majettes will look to their defense and goaltending to lead the way while getting the offense on track. Pat Morelli, MHS girls hockey coach:Going into the season we'd say scoring is going to be our achilles heal that we need to, that's what we need to work on the most. And it was last night. It could have been a different story in the game as far as if we would've buried some of our chances right away. Never did, it went right down to the wire. We didn't want it to, but that's the way it ended up. Our strengths are gonna be our goaltending and our defense. It's gonna start from there on out and hopefully the forwards, hopefully we start to learn how to put that puck in the net. Samantha Herslip, senior:Our team's pretty fast, we got a lot of people who have came up over the years and we got a lot of determination and a lot of heart. I feel if we can get past the Fargo and Grand Forks teams, we're gonna be pretty successful. Harly Damron, junior:We got three lines, three good lines like coach Morelli says its quality over quantity and we definitely got that. The Majettes next action will be next Friday when they host West Fargo. [www.clipsyndicate.com | KXMC CBS Bismarck North ]

  • They came so close, only to be turned away again. The Bismarck High boys hockey team lost out in the championship game last season, and the bitter taste in their mouths has remained. The Demons have lost a number of key players, and the roster is full of freshman and sophomores, but the team will still have a target on their backs. Consistently at the top of the West year in and year out, Head Coach Mike Pelsuo plans to build this team into a powerhouse and it starts with the basics. " (MIKE PELUSO/ BHS HEAD COACH) I think it kind of builds a reputation for the kids that are in the lockeroom that are left over they're stepping into it looking at the younger guys trying to give them a little heads up as far as things we need to do and thats things you can't teach you just gotta kind of let the kids figure that out for themselves and they've got a pride factor they obviously want to try to stay on top and certainly teams are going to try to come in and push them off the top of the hill." Bismarck High hosts West Fargo on Friday night at 5 pm. This is both their season and home opener. [www.clipsyndicate.com | KXMB CBS Bismarck North D]

  • FedEx founder and Memphian Fred Smith has built a company reputation of delivering packages on time, every time. But, as the search for a new head football coach for the University of Memphis appears now narrowed to just two contenders, some wonder if Smith isn't taking too much a personal hand in helping "deliver" the school a head coach.
