  • This year's TGU boys basketball team is looking to be in contention for the district title. 21 players are out for this year's team that features 3 returning starters. The Titans are coming off of a runnerup finish in the district and 3rd place finish at regionals. The Titans are also coming off a very successfull football season and are looking to extend that success onto the basketball court. Shane Walker returns for his 9th season with the team and he says this year's team will feature some size and quickness. Shane Walker, TGU boys basketball coach:We're big in the post and we're quick on the perimeter so we're kind of a combination team. Leaders for this year's team are Ian Keller, Tyler Thorson, Matthew Drader, Daniel Sivertson and then junior's Tyler Thorstad, they all should be kind of looked upon to provide scoring for us. We've got between our juniors and our seniors we got a lot of kids that have seen a lot of time the past two, three years so hopefully it will play dividends here in the end. Ian Keller, senior:We're not the tallest team but we're pretty average size. We got some speed in the guards and our post can move pretty well too. Matthew Drader, senior:We're pretty excited we got some speed, some size, a little bit of size, pretty excited I think we should do pretty well. The Titans next action is tomorrow night when the team meets up with Drake/Anamoose in opening round play of the CNDC tournament. [www.clipsyndicate.com | KXMC CBS Bismarck North ]

  • The Bismarck Blizzard have been to every State Tournament since girls hockey became a sanctioned sport. They are coming off of a State runner up season, but with a new head coach, they are after more. The Blizzard have SCORED 20 goals and GIVEN UP just 2 in their first two games. As easy favorites out West, Bismarck has their eyes on the prize, which is the State Tournament at the end of February. But with a packed schedule over the Christmas break, the Blizzard will find out how good they really are. " (MATT STRINDEN/ BLIZZARD HEAD COACH) our lines really came together well and I thought in our second game we were starting to click a little bit and the team was really starting to play well, I'm excited going into a holiday tournament here after Christmas in Blaine to see what we have against some of the Minnesota teams that are going to be there and get us started for teh second half of the season I guess. (MADDY GENDREAU/ JR. FORWARD) we've had a lot of practices which it helps us work on more stuff but once January comes we'll be ready since we have all those practices to play all those games." The undefeated Blizzard take on Jamestown Friday night at the VFW Sports Center. The Blue Jays are 1 and 2 on the season. [www.clipsyndicate.com | KXMB CBS Bismarck North D]

  • One streak has ended, but another one might be beginning for the Bismarck Bobcats. For more on that, lets go 'Inside the Den.' "It took 16 games, but the Bismarck Bobcats finally fell in regulation after a 7-to-3 loss at Albert Lea last Friday... but the next night, that score was more than reversed, as the Cats struck down the Thunder by six goals... and are now six points up for First place. (Layne Sedevie:) It was a great test for us because we got to see what was in our locker room and you watch the NHL and any sports and what do the Detroit Red Wings do when they lose, say, a 6 or 7 to 1 game? They show up to play the next night and that was huge for us because we came back and responded. (Trent Johnson:) We ended up winning Saturday, which was good, coming back and building up on what we didn't do Friday Night and what we should have taken care of Friday Night, but obviously, we didn't, so it was good to finally get the points on Saturday Night and get half of the points we were supposed to get. Head Coach Byron Pool was not with the team, as he's been away dealing with an illness in his family... In his place,is Assistant Coach Layne Sedevie. (Layne Sedevie:) He's back, had some family problems and is taken care of business back at home and y'know, we still have to win hockey games and we still have to take care of business, per se, for him. North Iowa makes their first trip to North Dakota this season... so far, the Cats are 1-0-1 head-to-head with the Outlaws. (Trent Johnson:) We have only played them a few times, but they are a good team and a skill team, but I think if we come out and play the body right away and just outwork them, I think we would end up winning." The series starts on Friday and ends on Saturday Night. Its the first time since late October that the Cats will have back-to-back games in Bismarck. Between now and then, they'll play an exhibition battle tomorrow night in Aberdeen, South Dakota to promote the NAHL there. [www.clipsyndicate.com | KXMB CBS Bismarck North D]
