  • if you think it's cold right now -- imagine being without any heat, not just tonight -- but for the past four months that's what dozens of residents in a northwest albuquerque apartment complex say they've been dealing with jeff maher is live near atrisco and iliff to explain why the whole place had to be evacuated tonight. jeff. the western palisades apartment complex was evacuated because many of the people who live here were using their ovens for heat - which led to at least one family suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. this 3-year-old girl is lucky to be alive - same goes for her entire family - who are all suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. her father, charles perez, says the oven was their only source of heat for the past four months "it's been rough because we've been minute thumbnail 10:03 pm using our oven for heat, that's all i can say, i just feel real bad, now that my kids got sick, it makes me really upset, something needs to be done" the perez family is not alone. when rescue crews arrived to treat the family - they found that other apartments we're also using ovens and space heaters - so they called in the safe city strike force. the red cross will likely send up to 75 residents at the complex to shelters because the entire place has no heat -- and the city may be forced shutdown the complex. "this could have been real tragic, somebody could have died under these circumstances" chief public safety director darren white says he's not sure why the complex was left without heat for so long. he's hoping to get those answers once the city is able to track down the landlord. we called the landlord's number - it was disconnected "these are very minute thumbnail 10:04 pm dangerous conditions, small children who are having to be hospitalized who have repeatedly asked the landlord to get out here and fix these problems, nobody should live in these conditions" "what would you like to see done? either something to where it's suitable for us to live or just reimburse us for what we paid on time a
