The joy of giving a gift no matter how big or small from a parent to a child is a priceless feeling. However, not everyone can afford the expense of gift giving during the Christmas season. To help the cause of making sure that no child goes without a present this year, the local Firefighters Union today stepped in and stepped up with a tremendous gift of their own. (Thomas Pruitt, Local 1157 Firefighters Union President) "Gotta have fire trucks. ha ha" And why not, these fire fighters with the Local 11-57 Firefighters Union are on a mission to save Christmas for less fortunate families in and around Minot. (Thomas Pruitt, Local 1157 Firefighters Union President) "Our Union does fundraisers through out the year." (Thomas Pruitt, Local 1157 Firefighters Union President) "So we have extra money that we like to give away to the needy or wherever we can find people that have need." The Local 1157 this year is giving 500 dollars each to several organizations including today's shopping for mission at Walmart for Toys for Tikes. (Thomas Pruitt, Local 1157 Firefighters Union President) "It's local and we know local kids are going to get the toys." Hard yes, but maybe not as difficult as battling a fire in subzero weather but the great care is being taken with each gift because these firefighters know just how much it will mean to a little boy or little girl. (Thomas Pruitt, Local 1157 Firefighters Union President) "People are just so happy to see anybody trying to help you know." And help, the Local 1157 Firefighters Union has. Raising 500 dollars, loading up the shopping carts with toys, and donating all of it to toys for Tikes. These firefighters may be used to saving houses and lives, but today they may have just saved Christmas for many families in Minot. Shaun Sipma KX News.
