  • The joy of giving a gift no matter how big or small from a parent to a child is a priceless feeling. However, not everyone can afford the expense of gift giving during the Christmas season. To help the cause of making sure that no child goes without a present this year, the local Firefighters Union today stepped in and stepped up with a tremendous gift of their own. (Thomas Pruitt, Local 1157 Firefighters Union President) "Gotta have fire trucks. ha ha" And why not, these fire fighters with the Local 11-57 Firefighters Union are on a mission to save Christmas for less fortunate families in and around Minot. (Thomas Pruitt, Local 1157 Firefighters Union President) "Our Union does fundraisers through out the year." (Thomas Pruitt, Local 1157 Firefighters Union President) "So we have extra money that we like to give away to the needy or wherever we can find people that have need." The Local 1157 this year is giving 500 dollars each to several organizations including today's shopping for mission at Walmart for Toys for Tikes. (Thomas Pruitt, Local 1157 Firefighters Union President) "It's local and we know local kids are going to get the toys." Hard yes, but maybe not as difficult as battling a fire in subzero weather but the great care is being taken with each gift because these firefighters know just how much it will mean to a little boy or little girl. (Thomas Pruitt, Local 1157 Firefighters Union President) "People are just so happy to see anybody trying to help you know." And help, the Local 1157 Firefighters Union has. Raising 500 dollars, loading up the shopping carts with toys, and donating all of it to toys for Tikes. These firefighters may be used to saving houses and lives, but today they may have just saved Christmas for many families in Minot. Shaun Sipma KX News. • Carla Burbidge reporting, a new store has committed to a location in Dakota Square Mall. In fact, its the first of three stores that will move into that large space vacated by CVS Pharmacy. Mall officials say the Buckle, will start remodeling soon. They are a store that offers clothing for younger people. This is the 4th Buckle in North Dakota, there are 400 nationwide. With this change, the Teachers Aid store will be closing. A new service for people over the age of 55. A business called ProHealth Home Care, started by Minot nurses LuAnn Henning and Judy Hoff. They come to the home, offer an assessment, and then help with medications, meals, housework, or transporation. LuAnn Henning, ProHealth Home Care, we hear, we want to stay in our home, we don't want to be in a nursing home or even assisted living, we can help... Henning says services provided by ProHealth may be covered by long term care insurance, but in other cases it's private pay. Fisher Motors has added something new. Because of all the changes this year in the auto industry, the dealership found itself with extra space. Manager Steve Zaun says they have remodeled and added a reconditioning center, a place where you can get your vehicle throughly cleaned and looking like new, they even offer restoration of your headlights. Minot has a new housecleaning business, as you can see from the web site, its called You have it Maid. They handle residential, commercial and speciality cleaning services, and all the products they use are enviornmentally friendly. In Kenmare, the new fire hall will be all set to go by next year. This is perfect example of what can be accomplished when people work together. Many years ago, they realized the current fire hall was just too small. After planning, fund-raising and countless donated hours, the goal of having a new fire station is just about a reality. Chuck Leet, Kenmare Fire Department, the response has been tremendous, the volunteers and the donations have made it happen The new station has plenty of room for trucks

  • Hundreds of people brave the cold weather as they wait in line for Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health's H1-N1 vaccination clinic. Lines formed outside of Century High School an hour before the doors opened. This is the first time Bismarck Burleigh Public Health has offered the vaccine to the general public. About 12-hundred vaccines are availableonly shots, no flu-mists. Today's plan is to set up so they can vaccinate a large amount of people. (Cheryl Underhill/Emergency Preparedness and Response Coordinator) "There are certain principles we apply to points of dispensing to stream line the process and move people through as quickly as possible and those are the kinds of things we have worked on over the years and honing and getting better and better each time." There are over 90 volunteers helping with today's clinic. Public health officials as well as police, fire, EMT's and the Red Cross are on hand. Cheryl Underwood says public health officials will monitor this H1N1 point of dispensing as a way to improve and help with future points of dispensing and emergencies. Bismarck Burleigh Public Health's next general public clinic will be at their facility next Thursday. [www.clipsyndicate.com | KXMB CBS Bismarck North D]
