More than two feet of snow doesn't just cause safety hazards for drivers. In fact, firefighters say it's what gets buried after a storm that can cause serious hidden dangers. The Fire Department is asking folks out shoveling this week to "adopt" a fire hydrant, meaning to clear snow around the hydrants to make sure every neighborhood has access to a water supply in case of a fire. There are more than 2500 hydrants across the city, and firefighters say it's impossible for them to keep track of where each one is located - that's why they need resident's help to mark the ones on individual corners. (Ed Hausauer / Fire Marshal) "If the fire hydrant is on your property in front of your house, your house is the first one protected by your hydrant. If we can't find that hydrant, we have to bring another one from two blocks down the street, it just takes us longer to get there and longer to get water to it, and there's going to be more damage from the fire."
