Disarmed Iranian rebels and their families are defying Iraqi police orders to leave a camp near the border. Iraq wants the former fighters of the People's Mujahedeen, which fought with Saddam Hussein's regime against Iran in the 1980-88 war, to move to the new camp with their families as a first stage towards leaving Iraq. The dissidents though are refusing to move.Duration: 02:02 [www.clipsyndicate.com | Agence France-Presse]

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are in a period of transition. The Iraq war is slowing down...while the battles in Afghanistan are heating up. A Bismarck native has just returned home from a year long deployment in Iraq. Brad Feldman gets a soldiers view on the condition of the country. Making a difference...one mission at a time.. It's how Specialist William Hertz describes his year of service in Iraq. (Spc. William Hertz) "We supplied a city, Bossi is the name of the city...we supplied them with dump trucks to clean up their streets and garbage trucks. Before that they had trash they just threw it on the street or oil changes they just dumped the oil on the street." Specialist Hertz says rebuilding the country before we leave is the primary mission. He says while things are a little more relaxed...you have to stay on your toes at all times... A lesson he learned during a few panic filled seconds. (Spc. William Hertz) "When you get hit with big bombs you get a concussion from the reverbs. So I am sitting there confused looking over at my buddy. He fell out of the tert he was standing outside of the tert with his m4 like this force protection and somebody blew up a bomb on the side of the road and I look over and he is hunched down in the corner. I thought he was gone." But luckily his buddy only had a few broken fingers... and some shrapnel wounds.. Which raises the question...when violence erupts in Iraq...are we doing enough to train the Iraqi Police and Military to take back their own country. (Spc. William Hertz) "We cant train them too much because if we give them too much information some of these guys are crooked...we can't go too in-depth into everything we teach them because it might come back to bite us." But the US's abilities and authority has changed...Hertz says The SOFA Agreement put into place this past July has given the US troops a more supervisory role. (Spc. William Hertz) "We are not allowed to do certain things like we used to. we are not allowed to arrest anybody without the Iraqi Police

A rainy day doesn't stop a warm farewell... as loved ones fill the Capitol Mall in early October... to send their final goodbyes up into the sky. My story of the year... is one family's touching reaction to their soldier's departure to Iraq. "They're headed to Ft. Sill, we and my family are here to see them off." The rain didn't dampen the showing of patriotism here... or the expression of love. Family and friends of around 47 guard members with Company C of the 285th Aviation Battalion are heading on a year long deployment to Iraq. While the the formal sendoff ceremony was last week... Supporters here say they had to be here for the flyover... to send their love one last time. (Shawna Helbling/Brother is Deploying) "We want to keep a positive attitude here and we want to really be able to support him here, no matter what is going on there." Many well-wishers know the drill for saying goodbye to their soldier... But for the friends and family of Specialist Shane Leingang... it was an emotional first. "We just feel it's a good support of our country and we are just so proud of him, for doing this and being brave enough to do this for our country and for our freedom and we just have so much pride for him and just love him so much and we just care about him." says Helbling. Tearful moments that demonstrate just how much they care... And a turning point for how they look at his deployment. (Helbling) "It's going to be a start to bringing them back home, so that's going to be really exciting, now we can countdown to them coming back home instead of them leaving." Amber Schatz, KX News The 47 soldiers will be hauling supplies and soldiers in Black Hawk helicopters for the next year... The KX News Team will be running all of our top "stories of the year" this week...And next Sunday we will continue with our "skype with a soldier" segment at this time.
