  • GREENVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) - A gripping goodbye in Greenville Friday night as the town sends several of its fighting men and women off to war. The tough farewells made even harder by the upcoming holidays. Family, friends say goodbye and honor the 150 people of the 1073rd who will leave for a 12 month tour of duty. Sgt. First class Andrew Lytle said "Actually for me, its bittersweet. Some of my best in the unit are leaving and I'm not going with them. So it's bittersweet. I'm going to miss them. I want to be with them". Amy Lytle agreed. "It is really hard. We've been involved with this unit for 20 years and a lot of our friends and family are here...and it's really emotional especially around the holidays". Some who are heading to Iraq say the support of the community makes it a little easier to leave before the holidays. "I just love this community. They're always really good at getting out, and showing their support. Everyone was honking their horns today as they drove by, so its really refreshing".
