  • Senator Kent Conrad today urged his colleagues to protect provisions in the Senate health care bill that will cut the deficit and help put the nation's finances in order. Senator Conrad wants to ensure that the savings generated by the healthcare plan are applied to reducing the deficit and not spent on other things. He says the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office determined that the Senate health care bill reduces the deficit by 130 billion dollars over the first 10 years and by as much as 650 billion dollars in the follawing decade. those are facts from cbo not facts made up by colleague on the floor for one purpose or another. This bill extends the solvency of medicare by at least four years and perhaps five. It's not all that needs to be done but it is a beginning. Today, Senator Conrad defended his support of the plan. He says a full-page ad running in North Dakota newspapers doesn't contain the facts about the cost of the plan or how it will reduce the deficit. [www.clipsyndicate.com | KXMC CBS Bismarck North ]
