it's a decision that could change the face of new mexico... a month from today-- residents in the south valley will cast their ballots to decide whether it'll become it's own town called "valle de atrisco." cristina rodda is here to show us how people voiced their lingering concerns tonight. cristina? in south valley ... some say they are grabbing a hold of their destiny... becoming their own incorporated town. for others it's an unwelcome move that they say could bring unwanted changes. with a population of 50-thousand people... incorporation for the south valley would mean becoming the fifth largest town in the state of new mexico... while it's tempting to some 08:40-43 we would have an increased voice in other situations. what's really behind the desire to become the town of "valle de atrisco" may be much more practical. 08:21-30 if we incorporate and become a town we will have the powers of a town we can make our own zoning laws that's real important to us. what's very clear in town hall meetings like tonight's is that residents in the currently uninocorpated farming and ranching community are still at odds over which way to go. what we have in the valley right now many employees we benefit from together with all the services ire department police department commity services. some say things like emergency services, libraries and even senior meal programs currently paid for by bernalillo county would disappear or worse... if we want to make up all these services to maintain the level of services we're going to have to raise taxes. what residents in south valley will need to do in just a month ... is decide... election day is tuesday january 5th... absentee voting starts next week. followed by early voting starting december 19th. rio rancho police aren't saying much tonight about the shooting tt happened right here in this parking lot. but the manager of one of the restaurants nearby tells us police found the shooting victim right in front of frederico's. the 34-year-old man was shot last night around 10-30. rio rancho police also took surveillance video from the restaurant. the manager says police said it was a fight in the parking lot that ended with a car with its windows shot out and one man taken to u-n-m hospital. at least one customer of federico's says he's not surprised.
