Berry says he will propose no furloughs for city employees and no increases in either taxes or fees. Instead, he has proposed making up the shortage through cost reductions. Each department head other than public safety has been told to cut their depart budgets by two percent. There will be no increase in the number of police officers on the street. Berry has also stopped a program putting logos on city vehicles. Berry says that he has already saved the city money by trimming the size of his staff.
