It wasn't Santa Claus knocking on the doors of residents in Mandan this early morning, rather police and fire department personnel. At around 6 o'clock this morning a gas leak forced many people to evacuate their homes. An unusal noise and a strong odor of natural gas were reported in the area of Division Street and Collins Avenue Northeast. The first engine company on scene noticed a natural gas safety release valve releaving pressure on the natural gas system. Residents in the area were evacuated as precautionary measure. The residents were asked to go to the Mandan Community Center if they did not have shelter elsewhere and they were out of their house for approximately two hours." The leak was secured within two hours of the evacuation. People were allowed back into their homes a little after 8 this morning.
