  • christopher rains made his first court appearance this afternoon. but he's not charged with murder. instead -- he's facing intentional child abuse resulting in death. we called the d-a's office to find out why there's no murder charge. a spokesman says both charges carry the same sentence -- which is a minimum of 30 years. after today's court hearing...rains was attacked by another inmate. we have the video of it. jeremy jojola continues our team coverage tonight with the tape. he's live from the county jail with the details. a very brief attack against the man accused of killing his baby daughter... minute thumbnail 05:02 pm lets take a look at the video we got from the jail's security camera system ... rains is standing with his back toward the camera--all of sudden---inmate eric salazar attacks him from behind. within seconds, corrections officers separate the two men. rains was not hurt--but because of the seriousness of his charges---the fact that he's accused of killing his own baby daughter--he has to be separated from other inmate the jail could not tells at this the jail could not tells at this point if rains is on suicide watch... as for that inmate that carried out today's brief attack---he will now be charged with assault... and he has also been separated from the other inmates.... just yesterday... minute thumbnail 05:03 pm that inmate was charged for having a deadly weapon on him while bend bars here at the jail.
