Accountants say the numbers are adding up fast... as more people sign up to hopefully get a big tax rebate. Accountants at Brady Martz and Associates say this... last week has been very busy as filers get their paperwork in. As they crunch your numbers, the experts are offering some advice on the new tax credits you should know about, thanks to the stimulus bill. Just one example... the MAKE AND WORK PAY CREDIT: if you make up to 6500 dollars in earned income... you can receive a credit of 400 dollars on your tax return this year. (Laura Adair/CPA) "It's easy to miss it's easy to miss these changes happen, sometimes you'll hear about some of them, but not others, and we all owe a certain amount of tax but we don't owe more than, we shouldn't pay more than we do owe." Some other tax credits worth looking into... The AMERICAN OPPORTUNITY TAX CREDIT The FIRST TIME HOMEBUYER CREDIT EXTENSION AND MODIFICATION The PERSONAL ENERGY CREDIT where if you've made energy improvements to your home... you can get up to 1500 dollars. SALES TAX DEDUCTION ON NEW VEHICLE PURCHASES And CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO HAITI RELIEF: where if you donated starting Jan 12th- Feb 28th... you can take that deduction on the 2009 tax return. CPA's say a lot of credits are subject to phase-outs, but you can always check with an accountant to see if you're eligible. [www.clipsyndicate.com | KXMC CBS Bismarck North ]

Putting education first could cost Toledo taxpayers hundreds of dollars extra per year. Toledo Public Schools Board of Education voted Tuesday to put a thee-quarter-percent income tax on the May 4 primary ballot. The school district's goal is to slice into a $30 million budget deficit. If the measure passes, the extra money would bring in about $18 million, but TPS would still have to make plenty of cuts. If voters say no, the district will be in even worse financial shape.
