  • The countdown to Christmas is continues...and a local nonprofit group has set up shop with the hopes that every child in our area will have something exciting to show off after the holidays. The Minot Region's Community Action Partnership is hosting a toy store for its clients until Christmas Eve. Thanks to set-up help from the Nedrose girls' basketball team last week and donations from the community, the store is stocked for parents to go shopping for everything to stocking stuffers to the hottest toys on any kid's wishlist. Family Services Specialist Janell Roy says the store is a way for families struggling to make ends meet to fill the gap at Christmas time. (Janell Roy / Community Action Partnership) "We hear a lot of people saying it's really tough, they're paying more money in rent. Typically it says 30% of their income would be for shelter, but we're seeing like 50%. It's really nice to have something like this, where they can put their money where it needs to be, and we can provide some of the extra stuff." Last year, between the toy store and the sponsored family program, Community Action Partnership was able to help nearly 300 families through the holiday season. Edith and Larry Cvancara SWAN-CH-ERA volunteer at every shift at the toy store. They say it's important for the community to help give the gift of Christmas to families who otherwise wouldn't have presents to give. (Edith Cvancara / Volunteer) "There's so much that people can do. It doesn't have to be a lot of money. A lot of little things make a Christmas, too." Roy says they are still accepting toy donations, and that they are always looking for gifts for older children and teenagers. If you're interested in contacting Community Action Partnership, the number is on your screen. [www.clipsyndicate.com | KXMC CBS Bismarck North ]
