The Goodies is a surreal British television comedy series of the 1970s and early 1980s. The series, which combines sketches and situation comedy, was shown during prime time, and is popular with all ages. The show was co-created and co-written by Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie, who also all starred in it. Bill Oddie wrote the music for the series — while "The Goodies Theme" was co-written by Bill Oddie and Michael Gibbs. The directors/producers of The Goodies series were John Howard Davies, Jim Franklin and Bob Spiers. The television series was made by the BBC 2 from 1970 to 1980 — and was then made by the ITV company LWT from 1981 to 1982. It is very late Christmas Eve and Bill wants to go out. However, before he can leave, there is an announcement that the world is going to end at midnight. There is general widespread panic, but shoppers are still interested in reaching stores, including Harrods, for their closing down sales.

The Goodies have become Advertising Men and Tim is horrified at the lies they tell about the products they advertise. Tim wants them to advertise about string, because he is of the opinion that string is pure.
Tim is fishing in the lake for Graeme's fish farm when a trawler arrives. Tim waves a welcome to the crew, and is upset when the crew are unfriendly in return. Tim is the presenter and producer of "New Faeces", a TV talent show. Tim then hits on the idea of the 50s/rock and roll revival — when Bill points out that that's already been done, he brings back the rock and roll revival revival and the country is plunged into a ridiculous obsession with everything 1950s.
The Goodies are running their own holiday service. The Detectives Club book their annual holiday on the 'Detectives Mystery Tour', and several famous detectives arrive to go on the mystery train.
