  • Seriously... what is it with companies that don't value quality customer service? In one week, I had the best and worst service from two different businesses. I will NEVER go back to the business who gave me bad customer service, however, I have already plugged the business who gave me great service to my family and friends. Tell me your best or worst customer service experience... and don't be afraid to use names. We all should be forewarned of these companies as we head into the holiday season. :) Join the conversation at http://www.sunnygault.com/crossroads

  • Hello, my name is Sunny, and I have a problem. I'm way too dependent on anything digital, specifically computers and the internet. Does anyone else have the same problem, and if so, are you willing to admit your digital dependence? Visit http://www.sunnygault.com/crossroads to join the conversation!

  • This crossroad is ripped from the headlines... sort of, if you consider my Facebook wall posts to be "headlines". Many of you seem to have some strong opinions when it comes to online dating sites and the people who use them. I'm extremely interested in this topic because I'm working on a new project focusing on people who are trying to find love online. I'm a big fan, but I want to know what you think. Did you meet your sweetie online? Tell me your story. Visit http://www.sunnygault.com/crossroads to join the conversation!

  • Have you googled yourself lately? If you haven't, do it now. You might be surprised to find some "digital dirt" you never even knew existed! Digital dirt is the information about you- your photos, your videos, your rants and raves found on forums, blogs and other social networking sites. And if you're not careful, your dirt could be bad for business. For many people, your online presence is their first (and perhaps only) impression of you. If they don't like what they see, they'll probably take their business elsewhere. And if you're trying to please a recruiter, digital dirt could derail your job prospects before you're even called for an interview. Tell me about your digital dirt. Is it in need of some cleaning? • " Hi. You've reached Crossroads. We're not here at the moment, but if you'd like to leave us a long-winded message detailing everything you need in life, please don't. It's annoying. Just be brief and we'll call you back as soon as we can. Bye!" Apparently, this is the message most people should include on their answering machines, or else people like me will spend the next 1-3 minutes being very precise about why they're calling and what prep work the person needs to do before calling them back. For me, this is more productive than leaving a brief message and forcing the person to call you back multiple times because they didn't have all the information they needed the first time. So, what do you think? Are long messages productive or a pain? Visit http://www.sunnygault.com/crossroads to join the conversation!

  • This week's crossroad is prompted by a recent conversation I had online with some of my facebook friends... You may have noticed several smaller businesses are no longer accepting credit cards due to the extra fees. If they accept debit cards, they generally pass that fee along to you. This totally irritates me considering 95% of the purchases I make are by debit or credit card, and I have no plans to change that. In a time when we need more money, is it really smart to inconvenience our clients? Shouldn't we be catering to them more? Visit www.sunnygault.com/crossroads to join the conversation!

  • Being laid off... It's not fun, and it's happening to more and more people everyday. I've been laid off two times, both within the last year. And to be honest, even though these situations had nothing to do with my personal performance... I feel somewhat shameful about it. I know it's silly to feel this way, however in general conversation, I usually try to avoid the term "laid off" at all costs. Perhaps I feel embarrassed. I mean, if my position were really THAT important it never would have been eliminated, right? Regardless, it's an issue for me, and I'm trying to figure out if other people feel the same way. • Getting naked... it's easier for some than others. I'm one of those people who has a hard time with it. It's a problem I didn't realize I had until recently, when I begrudgingly bared my birthday suit for a complete stranger.I blogged about my whole experience here: http://www.sunnygault.com/journal/2009/4/17/lets-get-naked.html So, now I'm wondering... do other people have a problem getting naked? • Creating a good, first impression. This is extremely important. First impressions can literally make or break you- which is why I've been thinking about it a lot. On Monday, I will be re-launching my new and improved personal website. For many people, this site will serve as the first impression they have of me, so every photo and every word has been carefully considered. This may seem a bit neurotic, but I would argue most people don't take first impressions as seriously as they should. Join the conversation at www.sunnygault.com/crossroads

  • “Getting Scammed: How to Avoid It” I’m not gullible and I’m not naive, but I do try and give people the benefit of the doubt. I have a difficult time believing someone could purposely want to take advantage of someone else for their own personal gain. For example, the freelance coder I recently hired to make improvements to my wordpress website. I’m not sure if he fully intended to scam me, but it definitely would have happened had I not taken immediate action. What rules do you live by to ensure you’re not in this same situation? • “Disagreement in the workplace: When should you voice your opinion?” You know the saying about opinions… everybody’s got one. But is that necessarily a bad thing? After all, if you’re being paid to work on a project, it’s safe to say you earned that position because people respect your work. And if a decision is made you don’t agree with, isn’t it your responsibility to respectfully challenge that decision? Isn’t your own reputation at stake? How do you handle disagreement in the workplace? Join the conversation at www.sunnygault.com/crossroads.

  • Is your grudge justified? In the 30 years I’ve been on this planet, I’ve come across a plethora of people who have pissed me off. Oops, sorry mom. She hates it when I use that word. I mean, “ticked me off”. Sometimes we reconcile our differences quickly, sometimes it takes awhile, and sometimes it never happens. And then comes the grudge…. What grudges do you have in your own life? Are they justified? If so, how does that impact the way you feel? Visit www.sunnygault.com to join the conversation!

  • Are you being gullible or charitable? This is a fine line for me. I’m an emotional person, so when I feel someone needs my help, I will generally do anything possible to help them. Even if they’re a complete stranger. I cannot fathom people taking advantage of someone’s hospitality when they don’t actually need it. Having said that, I know it happens. When presented with an opportunity to help someone, are you being gullible or charitable? How can you tell the difference? Visit www.sunnygault.com/crossroads to join the conversation!

  • “How do you de-stress?” Let’s face it, we live in a world we’re everyone is stressed out about something. I’m sure therapists would suggest that we all take a deep breath and try to figure out the source of our stress to prevent it from happening. Not me. I’m all about putting a band-aid on the situation. For me, stress is somewhat inevitable. So instead of trying to stop it, I just figure out ways to temporarily detox. I have a few key tricks, but I’m curious to see what other options are out there. Join the conversation at www.sunnygault.com/crossroads

  • "Is today's work ethic dead? A couple weeks ago, I had an interesting conversation with my mom about work ethic. At the time, we were actually talking about the election and how certain policies would negatively impact my parent's lifestyle and their plans for the future. My parents have a good life, but they don't expect to have anything just handed to them. They've worked extremely hard to achieve their current level of success, and it all boils down to having an incredible work ethic. Does that same work ethic still exist today?

  • "How good is a person's 'word'?" "I give you my word." You don't really hear that phrase anymore. Perhaps the term is just outdated, after all, we still make promises to people. Or maybe there's more to the story. Maybe a person's word no longer holds the value it once did. Join the conversation at sunnygault.com/crossroads
