From the anime "Mushi-shi" by FUNimation - Now available on DVD. Description- There's no effective way to describe the mushi. They simply are. They simply have been since life first began. As with many other things, man has forgotten how to see. And just as it's difficult to describe the feel or texture of an object to someone who's never held it in his own hands, to one who's never seen the mushi⦠Between this world and the next, there is a point where it becomes impossible to distinguish between plant and animal, between life and death. It is a place man was never meant to tread... This is where you will find the mushi. Neither good nor evil, they are life in its purest form. An unseen river reshaping the path of man, through their very presence we are changed. Vulgar and strange, they have inspired fear in humans since the dawn of time and have, over the ages, come to be known as "mushi."

Neither good nor evil, they are life in its purest form. Vulgar and strange, they have inspired fear in humans since the dawn of time and have, over the ages, come to be known as "mushi." Sound without source, for the voice is frozen. A consuming illness that cannot be seen. The sweet tones of childhood will damn those closest, but within the sacred smoke, her tale will be told. A new species discovered. Decisions made in arrogance and fear. The flames of the dead will find succor in the heat of the living. Life will be undone. Light the fires; darkness is coming. A world touched by four senses, until the filth becomes overwhelming. A gaze across the distance, across past, present and future. Eyes closed against the onslaught; eyes closed to all but truth. Three paths will meet for a time on the mountain, to roam and relish and learn the lessons there to be learned. Three paths will separate, yet even time cannot erase where the foot has tread.
Neither good nor evil, they are life in its purest form. Vulgar and strange, they have inspired fear in humans since the dawn of time and have, over the ages, come to be known as "mushi." Empty heads and floating souls, love fades fast. Like the stars, ever present though unseen. When the desire to be human is less than the pull of the other, the wedding will have a groom but no bride. A woman bearing the mark of generations, cursed to drown in a sea of written characters. The forbidden sealed away within her body. Where tales of death abound, compassion will flourish. A monster that can mimic the human, the shapeless taking on the form of infancy. That which is beyond our understanding can quickly learn to understand us. Therein lies the danger. Life's inevitable end, reduced to no more than a passing moment. Loved ones forever reborn. When the mother becomes daughter and daughter mother, what of the wisdom of life eternal?
Neither good nor evil, they are life in its purest form. Vulgar and strange, they have inspired fear in humans since the dawn of time and have, over the ages, come to be known as "mushi." The stories of the Mushi and the people they affect are all linked together by a traveling Mushi-shi, or "Mushi Master," who seeks rare Mushi sightings and uses his shaman-like knowledge of Mushi to help the effected people. What are the Mushi and what do they want?
Neither good nor evil, they are life in its purest form. Vulgar and strange, they have inspired fear in humans since the dawn of time and have, over the ages, come to be known as “mushi.” 1. To reenact the phoenix with water in place of flame, miracles tarry on the breath of the dying. When a single day carries the weight of a lifetime, one will choose to live on the other side of time. 2. The seed of a man driven mad by fading beauty. The search for a mimic of an illusion. While not a one should live only for the sake of living, false errand proves no better excuse for waste. 3. A marriage caught in the birth of a legend. Both will lose something already mislaid, guilt will leave one to endure. But where the semblance of love must be left behind, sorrow and solace await. 4. One man, responsible for a village destroying itself, unaware. The cycle of life and death, the equation unbalanced, requires knowing sacrifice. Here, eternal repentance will bear the greatest fruit.
