  • Something I caught on a Korean travel show. It's for my Lady Friend to see, because we decided not to go on our last day in New Delhi.

  • We'd heard that monkeys could be an issue in India, but we didn't know they'd move around in groups from roof to roof.

  • It just occurred to me that I won't be uploading Varanasi 1, but oh well. This is just a few minutes of life in the narrow alleys away from the ghats. I was waiting on my companions who were bargaining for scarves, and I enjoyed seeing the traffic move around the cow.

  • This is a wonderful astronomical complex from the 17th century located to the southwest of Connaught Place in New Delhi. The structures were used to measure time as well as to provide observational data for the planets and fixed stars. The stone-etched scales are still visible on most surfaces, and it's a marvel to see who these buildings were crafted... but for kids, this is just a fantastic playspace.

  • We were taken on a walking tour of Varanasi's old city on our last day there. This was the culminating experience.

  • This is the rural area south of Bodhgaya, where we'd gone in order to visit Mahabodhi Temple. We hired an autorickshaw out to the cave shrines several kilometers away. A Canadian tourist was with us, and he and my lady friend discussed some of the traveller tips they'd heard before (or after) arrival in India.

  • This is in Paharganj, the tourist ghetto (and I mean that) in northern New Delhi. Our friend and a couple of other Koreans were working a leather shop owner in re: some items they wanted before they left the city. They started trading barbs in Korean, which made me laugh. Meanwhile, the high-density foot/hoof/motor traffic passed by to a Hindi-pop beat.

  • A family from Madhya Pradesh (or was it Uttar Pradesh) wanted to pose with us in front of the Victoria Memorial in Kolkata. After the men organized a couple shots, the women wanted one of their own.

  • This is a 50-meter-tall temple devoted to the enlightenment of Siddhartha Gautama, the historical Buddha, in Bodhgaya, Bihar, India. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site, also. I went to Bodhgaya with a couple of friends on January 22, 2008.
