Gangaram alias Ganga (Govinda) lives a simple yet straight-forward life in a small village with his mom and dad (Shivaji Satham and Reema Lagoo), and Saawni (Sonli Bendre) his sweetheart. When the time comes for Ganga to marry, his parents inform him that his biological parents live in the city, and want him also to settle there. Ganga bids tearful farewell to his village and it's inhabitants, and travels to the city of his birth parents. He finds that he has an elder brother, his wife, Supriya, and younger siblings too, as well as his birth parents, Avinash (Shakti Kapoor) and Radha (Himani Shivpuri), who are all very wealthy. Soon word spreads about Ganga being the latest eligible bachelor, and Ganga is asked to marry socialite, Tina (Rinke Khanna), as per his parents' wishes. Dev Kumar wants to be a top musical star but his parents want to him to settle down in life like his brother Shiv Kumar. Dev tries his luck at a number of places, including Rana's club, but he is turned down. However, Dev is encouraged to preserve by his lyricist-friend Salim whoÕs confident that they will some day, make it big. But before that can happen, Salim dies tragically in a road accident. For the sake of his friend's memory, Dev goes on trying till he makes it big at Maya's club. When Rana offers him an inducement to join him, Dev refuses, thus angering Rana, who vows to get even with him. Dev, in the meantime, has fallen in love with Maya but not realising that she loves his brother Shiv. Dev is beaten by Rana's hoodlums and loses his voice. Shiv wants to avenge this but is himself beaten and hospitalised. However, Dev miraculously gets back his voice before the competition and Shiv, on hearing his brother sing, recovers.
