Part of a cross section study of how various different media interests reported the vote by the American House of Representatives Foreign Relations Committee to designate the mass killings of Armenians in the closing days of the Ottoman Empire as - Genocide. ABC news allocated a whole of 30 seconds to the story, mostly to highlight how 'Executive Authority' in the US is resolutely opposed to the Killing of 1.5 million Armenians in the closing days of the Ottoman Empire being called the first Genocide of the 20th Century. Video items highlighting the expediency which rules international relations amongst the power brokers in the west, showing how its dealings with strategic ally Turkey are ruled by concepts other than those of what is right or by concepts of justice -- despite its appalling human rights record, despite its ethnic cleansing of Armenians and Greeks; its Genocide of the Armenians; the continuing suppression of its Kurdish population; its persecution of progressive elements within its own society; the continuing and flagrant meddling in the affairs of Cyprus and its 33+ year occupation of one third of the island ... yet despite all this, Turkey has been allowed to obtain 'candidate' status to join the EU !
Having just seen the Riz Khan item which he pre-publicised with his 1 minute slot on their YouTube profile -- in an item asking whether, given all the other problems afflicting the world, the world media has "forgotten about the division of Cyprus" -- the program which Riz actually produced for 13th Nov 2007 was so one-sided it was beneath contempt. I totally lost my previous high respect for Riz Khan. Rather than treating the division of Cyprus with even a modicum of fairness he offered his media slot for blatant Turkish propaganda. Didn't know Al Jazeera does "pay per slot propaganda" items for selected causes. D I S G U S T I N G !

Yesterdays crime bumps into today's Expediency - US's Armenian Genocide Debate
'Allies at Odds' is how the BBC World News America reported the story of the vote by the American House of Representatives Foreign Relations Committee to designate the mass killings of Armenians in the closing days of the Ottoman Empire as - Genocide. The US President, his Secretary of State and the Secretary of Defence all abhor the historical killing of 1.5 million Armenians by the Turks, and even though Presidential candidate Bush prior to his election had called it Genocide, his government pleads with Congress not to call it Genocide. Nicholas Burns of the State Department is rushed into TV News studios to be interviewed by the media with a conciliatory statement at the first opportunity after the vote.
